… overtaking Japan and as far as we can see the business opportunities will continue to rise in the coming years. After my very first business consulting seminar in Shangai [in Channel Marketing Strategies] focussing on the Internet and Distribution,

it was very educational for me to learn from some of the executives who I was standing in front of for days delivering the first of many marketing strategy seminars and consulting sessions.

Having managament from different industries all desiring to have their needs met meets with certain challenges, however as I am striving for excellence – I was happy to stretch myself up into new comfort zones.

With there being a shift from China just acting as a manufacturing arm for many of the world’s Multi National Companies to being an economy that is innovating and producing goods and services that needed domestically and internationally, we see a corresponding need to learn from the west in terms of process management and strategy development. The point is that – by learning in the form of taking in business consultants from the West, the country will save itself years in terms of trial and error, not to mention the amount of money that goes with that.

With all of the dynamics that goes into piecing the economies of the world together, as a business consultant I can see many opportunities for strategyt consultants like myself to lending a hand to the development of the economy of China.

With that said, I look forward to many more interactions and learning from as well as assisting Chinese [based] companies to grow and prosper as the dependency on the strength of business China continues to be one that is growing.

Ok, so let’s continue with these thoughts on Small Businesses making use of Business Consultants :-

Making using of a business consultant certainly does not mean that one does not have the requisite skills to run their business.

One of the main advantages to using a strategic business specialist is that they can take a look at ones business with a critical eye and help one fine tune it. They can help to see what can be improved with the operations and what needs to be changed.

The fact is that the advice that will be given by using a specialist strategic visionary and expert business marketing consultant may not always easy to hear, but the advice may help to advance ones company.

Taking the steps to hiring a strategic business consultant really goes on to help people see that the business owner cares enough about their company to actually go and ask another person, that is someone who is more experienced and knowledgeable, how it can run more smoothly and how they can improve upon the operations.

When we analyse some of the reasons why the smaller companies fail, we can see that the reasons can be put down to to lack of a strategic business plan to follow. Getting outside help can assist move the operation forward in the right direction.

Now onto the main point of the post, I have had many discussions with business owners

to get them to use our services and they often do not see the logic of having a web

presence. I spoke with a business owner yesterday (on Gloucester Rd, Bristol, UK) and

made the following points:-

 

o Your are leaving money on the table

o There are people who need your products/services who are online & don’t know you

   exist

o There could be someone on the other side of the world ready to be your customer

o Your customer base is no longer just on your doorstep

o The internet will allow you to multiply the time you have to service customers

 

… and the list could go on and on and on.

 

If you have a traditional business where you stand in the shop and trade your time for

dollars or pounds, then the internet will allow you to sell and service customers while

you are not sitting in the shop waiting for the next customer.

 

I will have to deal with this more in another post but please take the learning that in

the age in which we live, you must have a web presence for your small business. You

do not have to be a computer expert because there are companies (such as

Capid Houser) which can provide a complete service to get you online.

As I discuss the possibility of being hired as Business Consultant often by the small business owner, the question which often arises is “I have managed up until now without a marketing consultant, why do I need one now?” After I dig a little deeper what I normally find is that my prospective client’s business has been stagnant for years, that they have been doing things the way they always have and; as we know that guarantees we get the same results.

Of course, if you have not been trained in the marketing discipline, have a natural tendency or bias to market or not been exposed to classic marketing principles there is not reason why you should know exactly marketing is or how to execute marketing in your business. My advice to any prospective client or to you reading from wherever you are in the world is, if you are not moving with the times, learning and executing sound marketing principles to take your business to the next level – you are missing out on potential new customers, business growth, wealth creation and more.

Specifically, failure to make extensive use of the internet to generate awareness for your company, build your brand, establish your expertise and to reach customers from all corners of the earth is something I consider as a BIG mistake. If you are unable to grasp the new technologies, don’t have the time or personnel to execute the necessary tasks then the next best thing is to hire a consultant.

It is particularly rewarding for me to bring my experience of conducting business throughout Europe, the U.S. and the Far East to my consulting practice and to help in taking my clients business to the next level.
