This calls for organisations to be concerned about managing the reputation of their business online.

The question of how to make use of emotional intelligence with businesses is one that is being asked by people found all over the world. It is the seperation of Personal And Self Development from business that it looked at which up until recent years was the way to look at things.
Now of course, we are looking at the most successful leaders and managers [see the book Primal Leadership] and noting that it is something more than their academic accomplishments or their straight line IQ neural connection but; their ability to adapt to and connect with other people.
Emotional Intelligence and the associated Social Intelligence is a critical attribute that is to be embraced by leaders as it is the ability of the manager or leader to get other individuals in the team to execute tasks and to be willing to come up with new ideas.

Of course Emotional Intelligence In The Workplace is receiving much attention today – why ? because ‘straight A’ individuals are being hired and managers are realising that the ability to be in touch with oneself [Emotional Intelligence] and correspondingly be able to influence and reach others [Social Intelligence] are some of the key skills that are needed today.

Currently I am involved in consulting with organisations to aid them in developing and increasing their organisational effectivenes and focussing in on just what is it that makes a great versus mediocre leader. What was it for example that made Herb Kelleher [former CEO of South West Airlines] such a great leader who made people want to follow him.
Looking at great leaders from all walks of life we know intrinsically that they have ‘something makes people want to be around them and want to do their very best for them as a leader and for the organisation for which they work. Through continued breakthroughs in Neuro Science we now know that the brain acts as both a transmitting as well as a recieving organ – with respect to leadership the term "Social Intelligence" looks at the ability of a leader to cause the members of his/her team to cooperate, do their very best and ultimately improve the organisation.
Traditionally we would focus on the abilities of the leader [Emotional Intelligence] and of their skill level and competencies to be able to complete tasks but now; we are looking at how critically important Social Intelligence is to the qualities of a leader.
During this particular business trip I have spoken to over 1000 people on the topic of Social Intelligence and Leadership, it is my desire that I will be able to continue to use my consulting skills in new and fresh areas in order to improve organisational effectiveness and thereby help companies to generate more revenues.

I tend to give a lecture or short talk to business owners once a month, in addition to this in my consulting work I am frequently astonished at the lack of discipline that businesses have when it comes to developing and implementing ongoing marketing strategies.
Given that marketing [and the resultant sales] are the life and soul of every company I am continually baffled at how little time business owners pay to marketing. The title of this article is ‘small business marketing ideas’ but when talking to executives from corporates I see a tendency to continue doing what has been done in the past.
That, of course will guarantee past results ! So – what are some of ideas that business owners can start to think about in order to effect change in their organisations ? Without looking at the details of the business of the reader, I would like encourage taking a look at the field of …
- Channel Marketing
… that it to say; stop and think about the various routes ‘Marketing Channels’ that you are currently using to …
- a) Get your message out to prospective clients
- b) Deliver your products and services to the end user
Take for example; some of the large supermarkets – here in the UK we have bit ‘T’, ‘S’ and ‘A’. They present their messages to us via the television, via the internet, newspapers, radio, billboards, flyers and the list can go on. In addition to this we can purchase the goods that they have on offer via the internet, via the TV or we can of course go into the store. We have described various Channels To Market that the supermarkets use to ultimately get us to purchase their goods.
Now, one of the lessons that we can learn from this is that there are / can be / should be various means / methods / techniques in use at any point in time as part of our ongoing marketing strategies. This is of course an ongoing process and something that will be developed / strategised and worked out during any business strategy consultation.
Marketing is a skill and discipline that many business owners who are experts at their particular business field often fail to appreciate – this is not something is done when it comes to Accounting and Finance and Manufacturing, the expert is normally called in to perform these functions. Marketing is the most important part of your business – do not leave it to chance, get expert help that can help you develop an ongoing coherent strategy from which to work from.

I conducted Business Strategy Consultations for many businesses, however in particular we worked with www.InMarketingConsultancy.com who was ably represented by Rosamaria Reig.
The company works to assist Spanish based companies to conduct business in the UK and also those UK based organisations who need marketing expertise to be able to operate and sell in the Spanish market.
Your business, my business and overy other person’s business out there in the world at large lives and dies by the strength of its sales and outbound marketing. While it is at times easy to get focussed inwards working on the day to day business activities – it is imperative to keep an outward looking marketing, strategic view when it comes to thinking about and dealing with ones products and services.
One of the best things to do is to continually ask the question ‘who is my product and services for’ yes, that is who, in the singular. Although we do sell to groups of people and organisations, at the end of the day it is individuals that make purchasing decisions. Refining our business marketing message so that we are targetting our products and service for someone will enable us to meet the needs of the end user and; ultimately sell more.
This in line with core marketing strategies when considered will serve to assist take your business to the next level. As I continue to work with SMEs – the challenge is to get them to focus outwards and of course to get them to embrace the richness that the internet has to offer when considering it as a Marketing Channel.

Hello again, this is the 3rd and final post on this topic. It is indeed a crucial topic and something which all organisations
need to pay attention to and embrace. It is my hope that more consultants such as myself will build this link between
the functioning of company and the role of Diversity.
As companies deliver their products and services to wider and wider profile of target customers it is imperative that more minorities, people of color and women are encouraged to be part of organizations and importantly are seen to be operating throughout their chosen organization at all levels.
The companies which innovate and reinvent themselves on a continuous basis are the companies which will retain their competitive advantage in the market place. Invention and innovation requires creativity and creativity requires true diversity.
Indeed the message that needs to be propagated throughout the organization is one that creativity is driven by true Diversity and, in turn creativity is the main driving force behind innovation and invention. It is this innovation and invention which enable companies to maintain their competitive advantage, this advantage drives profitability and this profitability continually establishes the business case for Diversity.
